Bed Bug help is available for vulnerable citizens of Ontario's Windsor Essex County – if you meet the following 3 conditions:
- you rent/lease from the private sector for profit
- your income is below Statistics Canada’s Low-Income Cut-Off (LICO) and
- you have a physical or mental disability OR you are 55 or over.
Contact Citizen Advocacy (519-966-5010) who will work with your landlord, superintendent or property manager ensuring a professional Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program is put in place to eradicate the bed bug infestation.
Medical Officer of Health, Dr. G. Allen Heimann explained:
“The goal of the program is to both control bed bug infestations, and to prevent them from occurring in the first place through public education and awareness”.
This $135,000 initiative is part of the province’s $5 million set aside to address its growing bed bug problem plaguing the province. It is fervently hoped the rest of the Canadian provinces and territories is taking heed of Ontario's example.
Update: the $135,000 bed bug funds for the vulnerable citizens of Windsor Essex must be used by March 31 2012. If you qualify (see numbers 1 to 3 above) call 519-966-5010 and request assistance to fight bed bugs. If you do not meet the criteria, you may still call this number for advice to fight bed bugs.
