News from the North American Bed Bug Summit

The 2011 North American Bed Bug Summit has concluded in Chicago with attendance figures doubling from 2010 and exhibitors up 67% over last year.  Clear indication bed bugs are plentiful, the bed bug problem continues to grow and exterminating them is big business.

Word out of the conference does not give hope for a bed bug silver bullet.  Rather more of the same bed bug solutions reinvented or expanded - heat treatment versions, such as trailers, boxes and closets, being the most popular.  Hints of a release date of October 19 for another rendition of a bed bug active monitor (rumoured to be dry ice activated) were heard at the conference and in FMC Professional Solutions’ September 26th press release.  This product appears to be directed at Pest Control companies as the release references “significantly increase revenue” and the timing coincides with Pest World 2011.

This next conference is expected to draw 3,000 pest management professionals to New Orleans to hear the latest on pest management practices and a National Bed Bug Forum.
