Are You A Victim of Bed Bug 'Snake Oil'?
Join The Class Action Suit
Did your bed bug product not work as advertised? Consider joining a class action lawsuit that has opened.
The website, Top Class Actions, is looking for disappointed clients of bed bug bombs, foggers or any other bed bug product whose claims to get rid of bed bugs did not measure up as advertised. You just might have a legal claim to compensation.
Pest Professionals Knew All Along
This action is a good move as scientific research has shown what pest professionals knew all along - these products' claims are misleading and may actually disperse the population increasing the cost, time and labour to rid yourself of this pest. It would feel good to see some karma dealt out. No doubt it will take awhile, but it will be interesting to see these products disappear from the marketplace as the initiative gains ground.
The Problem Is...
We spoke about this topic back in September 2012 with the post Bogus Bed Bug Products. Marketed as an easy, cheap way to make your pest disappear these do-it-yourself bed bug bombs or bed bug foggers are supposed to work by filling an entire room with aerosol insecticid. Problem is that aerosols do not reach where crawling bugs hide - deep in cracks and crevices. Then there is the resistance factor to the active ingredients of these products.
According to the website: "Some of the bed bug products being investigated for a possible false advertising class action lawsuit include, but are not limited to:
- Hot Shot Pest Bed Bug & Flea Killer Aerosol
- Hot Shot Bed Bug & Flea Fogger
- Other bed bug products"
Led By The Leonard Law Office
The American Leonard Law Office seems to be spearheading this initiative and their website states: "Spectrum makes, Hot Shot, Spectracide, and Eliminator. Spectrum is a Delaware corporation with its corporate headquarters at 601 Rayovac Drive, Madison, Wisconsin. Spectrum labels and advertises that its Hot Shot Bed Bug Products "Kill(s) Bed Bugs." This representation is central to Spectrum's marketing of its Hot Shot Bed Bug Products, and is displayed on the product itself, Spectrum's marketing of its Hot Shot Bed Bug Products, and is displayed on the product itself, Spectrum's website, and other online advertisements."
